About this event

The NIHR Statistics Group was formed to support statisticians to share expertise, facilitate communication and collaboration. The Group also aims to provide opportunities for career development.

As part of NIHR SSCR's capacity-building programme, we are exploring the usefulness of setting up a working group focused on statistical methods for adult social care research.

The Webinar will involve two presentations followed by discussion:

The good, the bad and the ugly: reflections from conducting a trial in social care

Professor Catherine Hewitt, York Trials Unit

Social care data: challenges and opportunities for evaluation

Dr Jose-Luis Fernandez, Care Policy and Evaluation Centre, LSE

This Webinar will provide an opportunity to:

1) discuss and share experiences of the use of new and established statistical methods in social care research;

2) discuss routinely collected and other statistical data on adult social care; and

3) explore interest in establishing a NIHR Statistics Working Group for Social Care, and discuss its scope, objectives and activities.

This Webinar is open to anyone working in or interested in adult social care research with a focus on statistical methods.

NIHR SSCR's Webinars are free to attend with pre-registration.

The NIHR SSCR Capacity Building Events Series is supported by the NIHR Academy and the Department of Health and Social Care.

The NIHR School for Social Care Research (NIHR SSCR) is one of the leading funders of research into adult social care practice in England. Established in 2009, our research findings will support new developments in social care policy and practice. The current phase (2019-2024) is led at LSE in partnership with King's College London and the Universities of Birmingham, Bristol, Kent, Manchester and York.

The School is directed by Professor Martin Knapp (LSE) and is part of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). Since 2009 we have commissioned over 210 research studies and a number of reviews of methods and evidence scoping studies, spanning all client groups, diverse care settings, and major practice issues. Findings from many of our studies can be found on our website.
